RECORD STOPOVER VISITORS. St. Lucia received a record 300,000 stopover visitors in 2005 but saw its share of cruise ship tourists fall by nearly a fifth, said Prime Minister Kenny Anthony, reports AP (Jan. 17, 2006):
Some 290,000 stopover visitors, defined as non-cruise ship tourists, traveled to the Caribbean island in the first 11 months of 2005. Anthony said data for December was still being compiled, but noted the island usually receives more than 20,000 tourists during that month, putting the 2005 arrival total above 300,000.
